How did you come to work at ESET? What skills, abilities or education helped get you hired?
I studied international trade and marketing, so that’s why I wanted to do something in this ballpark. My first experience was working for a number of global technology companies. I am passionate about new technologies, which helps because in my line of business, you constantly have to keep coming up with innovative solutions. You have to be able to “read” the market, to get to know the business, so that you can be a strong and reliable partner for your clients. So expanding my horizons is on the daily agenda, as is honing new skills and learning new things. It also helps if you want to work on yourself, achieve your goals and develop further. I think this sort of thing is in the company DNA. And that’s what I found appealing about ESET from the start and that’s why I am here :). I am the type of person who seeks new challenges, always looking to be better at what I do. I guess it’s in my blood and I think it’s what has brought me to the ESET family.
Where did you begin? What was your first position when you started working at ESET?
I got my start as Marketing Manager for the Slovak market. I can say that I am glad to have been able to attract a bunch of highly skilled people to my team, each with a unique marketing specialization. Together, we work on interesting projects, not only in marketing communication, but increasingly in e-commerce as well.
In which position are you currently working?
As I mentioned already, I work as Marketing Manager for Slovakia. The market situation here is always changing and it makes me proud that our business keeps moving ahead. To keep pushing the boundaries and remain in the lead, we have branched out our marketing activities, so now we not only look after the brand’s communication across Slovakia, but also attend to our e-commerce activities. In fact, it is keeping us quite busy at the moment.
What are your favorite projects?
E-commerce is my favorite. You can see how a change in how you do things, strategies put into practice and field- tested are having an effect. It is far from a routine, I have to be on my toes, always improving, tweaking, testing and trying new things. I also like that because we are in ESET’s home country, which is on the smaller side, we can roll out big global projects, trying out different things. At the same time, we are providing valuable feedback to our colleagues at the HQ, which is priceless :)
What do you like the most about working at ESET?
The whole atmosphere is inspiring, with many skilled individuals working here. Also, ESET has created the right conditions for new ideas, bringing together a mix of really interesting people. I think that ESET can motivate you to achieve more. You can be creative and at the same time work on your personal development. At ESET, we like to say that everything requires the right balance – the same is true for work and re-charging your batteries. To me, ESET is a leading Slovak company that has made it globally, and I am proud to work here.

How did you come to work at ESET? What skills, abilities or education helped get you hired?
My arrival at ESET was quite non-standard. An old friend with whom I studied Computer Science contacted me about an open position at ESET, which was about doing malware analysis as an independent contractor. I had no experience whatsoever in reverse-engineering and malware analysis, but I did have a minimal background in assembly, dating from my undergrad studies, and in cybersecurity in general. We agreed on a trial period, during which I would need to quickly learn the skills required to perform malware analysis. The experience I gained from my graduate studies really helped me get organized and progress in learning something entirely new for me.
Where did you begin? What was your first position when you started working at ESET?
My first position was Malware Researcher. In this position, I was responsible for analyzing and documenting malware, while improving my knowledge and skills in this area.
What position are you currently working in?
Five years after my arrival at ESET, I now hold two positions at once: Security Intelligence Team Lead and Managing Director of ESET’s research branch office in Montreal. I am in charge of coordinating the research and publication efforts performed by the Montreal team, as well as managing the operational aspects of running a branch office.
What are your favorite projects?
Leading a growing team that does in-depth malware research and communicates its results through conferences, blogposts and whitepapers is really my favorite part of the job. One of the finest pieces of research we did as a team was on the Windigo operation: over 6 months of research and a carefully planned publication strategy culminated when our research was awarded the first Peter Szor award in 2014.
Working with a team of high-quality malware researchers allows me to see each individual improve their knowledge and skills day after day. There is always something new to learn, even after many years doing malware research.
What do you like the most about working in ESET?
The best technologies come from experimental research. ESET puts this principle forward every day by allowing its teams to experiment with new ideas and to prove their usefulness. Never do we have to compromise quality and innovation because of sales or marketing pressure. It is easy to understand why this is the case at ESET: the company owners are all technical people, the same people who created the company and its product line from scratch many years ago. It is not operated by some investors focused on a quick return on their investments.

How did you come to work at ESET? What skills, abilities or education helped you to get hired?
A job advertisement on the radio for a secretarial position at a small company caught my interest. I came in for the job interview and it was really pleasant and informal. Since it was only a few months after I had finished my studies I had no job experience. But apparently, this was a good thing because the owners wanted a “fresh” person that they could mold according to their needs. So out of all the job candidates, I was the one with Lady Luck on my side and ESET became a big part of my life for many years.
Where did you begin? What was your first position when you started working at ESET?
I started working at ESET on November 1, 1992, as a secretary.
What is your current position?
I currently work as a Sales Specialist Teamleader.
What have been your favorite projects?
During my years at ESET, most of my tasks have related to the business side of things. I have the fondest memories of the times when I was in charge of processing and invoicing extensions and expansions of licenses. At the time, it was all manual work and I had to process around 1,000 orders a month, which seems impossible when I look back at it now. But for me, it was the happiest period in the company. Maybe it sounds strange but there were times when at the weekend I couldn’t wait for Monday, so that I could dive back into work.
What do you like most about working at ESET?
Being an ESET employee is a huge honor for me. I am one of the few people who had the good fortune to experience the transformation of a small company into an internationally renowned one. It still makes me smile when I think about it: I just shake my head and tell myself what a great story it will be for my grandchildren.
At ESET, I value most the people that make the company what it is and hope from the bottom of my heart that it will always keep its family spirit, which has been present here even with the ever-growing number of employees.
What 3 words best describe ESET?
For me personally, ESET means: Slovak miracle, second home, security.

How did you come to work at ESET? What skills, abilities or education helped you to get hired?
Back in 2009 I was doing an overseas internship in Frankfurt, Germany when I received an email from my university in Argentina suggesting I participate in a security contest organized by ESET, in which students from many Latin American universities were encouraged to write an article about IT security and compete to attend a well-known international security conference. After a couple months’ writing, I was lucky enough to emerge as one of the winners, and hence to meet the wonderful people behind the ESET office in Latin America. At that time, ESET was looking for new people with technical backgrounds and some public-speaking and writing skills to support the security research team.
Since I was about to finish my university degree, had some experience holding talks, and spoke a few languages, I believed it could be interesting to give it a shot.
Where did you begin? What was your first position when you started working at ESET?
I started as a Security Awareness & Research Specialist for our Latin American offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Additionally, I focus on improving our research activities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
What are your favorite projects?
Anything that mixes different backgrounds and cultures. I am passionate about working with people from other countries and disciplines. That’s perhaps one of the consequences of having lived in seven cities in four different countries.
What do you like the most about working at ESET?
As a global company with a worldwide presence, I enjoy the opportunity to travel and exchange knowledge with different types of audiences, and to learn all the time.

I came to work at ESET after applying for an anonymized job offer online. Where did you begin? What was your first position when you started working at ESET?
In summer 2008 I joined the Technical Support team, and became its leader 2 years later.
What position are you currently working in?
Meanwhile I switched to the PR team, becoming a Security Specialist and giving presentations and working with the press and other media, as well as working in a range of organizations and committees.

The fact that I can help to make the world a little safer by educating people.
