ESET Resource Center
December 2023
In the latter part of 2023, cybersecurity saw notable shifts. The Cl0p cybercriminal group, known for ransomware, gained attention with the "MOVEit hack," diverting from their usual tactics by leaking information if the ransom wasn't paid. The Mozi IoT botnet faced disruption through a discovered kill switch, prompting speculation on its origin. AI-enabled attacks targeted users of tools like ChatGPT, while Android spyware cases surged with SpinOk. Cryptocurrency threats, despite bitcoin's value rise, remained stable, but cryptostealers, notably Lumma Stealer, saw an increase. These trends underscore the dynamic and diverse nature of contemporary cybersecurity challenges.
