As a privately held company that began as a startup itself 30 years ago, ESET has always encouraged and supported startups and entrepreneurs. That is why it was a natural fit this year to support San Diego Startup Week, an event that brings together entrepreneurs from all over Southern California (June 19-23, 2017) to participate in a variety of events that cover topics on cybersecurity, craft beer, biotech, future tech, and more.
This year, we are extremely excited to sponsor and host the SecureSD track, which focuses on all things cybersecurity. Throughout the week, attendees of SecureSD will get a chance to participate in many different events and sessions that cover a variety of cybersecurity-related topics, all held at the ESET office in Little Italy (610 West Ash St., San Diego, CA 92101).
In addition to hosting all the SecureSD track session, ESET will be participating in the following events:
· San Diego’s Cybersecurity Economy Panel: On Wednesday, June 21, 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., ESET Senior Security Researcher Stephen Cobb will speak on a panel made up of public, private and academic leaders to discuss the region’s cyber economic impact, trends and trajectory of an industry that supplies 16,500 jobs and invests $1.9 billion annually into San Diego’s economy. Rear Admiral Ken Slaght, USN Retired, Co-Chair & President, Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) will moderate this discussion.
· San Diego Startup Week Pub Crawl: On Wednesday, June 21, ESET (7th floor, ESET employee game/break room) will be one of the stops on the Startup Week Pub Crawl. Attendees will get a chance to hang out while sipping local brew, and enjoying networking and ESET employee break room fun like ping-pong, video games and more.
· Speaking session – “Why not making cybersecurity a core part of your business growth strategy is a mistake”:On Thursday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m., ESET Business Security Specialist Michael Aguilar will be presenting on why solid IT security from the beginning of a company’s growth is critical. As cybercriminal activity in the modern age grows at an astronomical rate, a secure digital infrastructure is a foundational element of today’s modern and competitive businesses…but not always for the reasons you think. PLUS, we will be giving away an Amazon Echo to one lucky winner!
· San Diego Startup Week Festival: Friday, June 23, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., the street next to the Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego is taken over with vendors, food and more.
ESET is committed to furthering entrepreneurship as well as diversity and inclusion in cybersecurity. We look forward to meeting talented startup founders, investors, designers, community leaders and more in this important event for our local San Diego community.
