ESET®, the IT security vendor, was honored last week at the 24th Virus Bulletin International Conference in Seattle, USA when its Research Lab from Canada received the Péter Szőr Award for Best Technical Paper for research on Operation Windigo.
"ESET Canada are worthy winners of this inaugural award in memory of the great Péter Szőr. The depth and breadth of the Operation Windigo investigation, the use of a range of groundbreaking techniques, and the high level of collaboration with other researchers and affected parties are all very much in the spirit of Péter's own excellent work. We hope this award will serve to encourage further superior-quality research from ESET and others in the future," said John Hawes, Chief of Operations at Virus Bulletin.
Péter Szőr Award was established in commemoration of the life and work of security researcher Péter Szőr, who passed away in November 2013. The award recognizes the best piece of technical security research conducted each year, with the winner announced at a gala dinner held at the annual Virus Bulletin Conference.
ESET North America CEO Andrew Lee had tweeted from his official Twitter account shortly after the winner was announced: “Really proud of Pierre-Marc Bureau and his team winning the Péter Szőr Award at #VB2014. I think Peter would have been too.”
