ESET Canada names Mélanie Cadelis as the winner of the $5,000 scholarship
TORONTO, June 9, 2021 – ESET, a global leader in IT security, is thrilled to announce that Mélanie Cadelis has been selected by ESET Canada as the winner of the Sixth Annual Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship.
Designed to help address the underrepresentation of women in the cybersecurity field, the Annual Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship grants $5,000 to an outstanding graduate/undergraduate woman majoring in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field of study. This is the first time that ESET Canada has participated in the program.
Mélanie Cadelis is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Laval in Quebec, majoring in computer science and management.
In addition to maintaining excellent academic standards, receiving the highest academic achievement and several involvement awards, Mélanie works to inspire future generations and empower women in the cybersecurity field by showing them their contributions are essential to design solutions that will meet the diverse needs of an evergrowing industry.
“I strongly believe in empowering women and have co-founded a student association called Fémin-IT, an organization that encourages women to join the tech and cybersecurity fields. In forming Fémin-IT, we hope to create a safe space where women can express themselves, share interests and support and encourage each other in this male-dominated environment,” says Cadelis. “I am also a delegate of the Computer Science and Management Program Committee and actively participate in events that encourage more young people to pursue careers in the IT industry and cybersecurity space,”
Mélanie also plans to continue her studies for the fall semester at the University of Virginia in the United States, to improve her cultural awareness and develop skills that will help her work in a globalized technology environment.
“We were inspired to see the number of highly qualified Canadian applicants who applied to the scholarship, showing both their passion in the technology field and desire to do good with their unique skill set,” said Celeste Blodgett, vice president of human resources at ESET. “After a rigorous selection process, we decided that Mélanie embodies the spirit behind the ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship. She is driven, takes initiatives to pursue her goals and still finds time to help other women and students in technology.”
Although this is the first year that ESET Canada has participated in the program, the ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship was launched in 2016 to help support and encourage women who aspire to have a career in information security. Applicants must be a woman enrolled in or accepted to an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Canada with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.
Applicants were asked to complete a two-part essay and include a letter of recommendation. More information on the qualifying process can be found here.

TORONTO, Le 9 juin 2021 - ESET, leader mondial en sécurité informatique, est heureux d'annoncer qu’ESET Canada a désigné Mélanie Cadelis comme lauréate de la sixième bourse d'études annuelle Women in Cybersecurity.
Lancée afin d’aider à remédier à la sous-représentation des femmes dans le domaine de la cybersécurité, la bourse d'études annuelle Women in Cybersecurity accorde 5 000 $ à une étudiante remarquable présentement au premier cycle ou aux cycles supérieurs dans un domaine des STIM (science, technologie, ingénierie et mathématiques). Cette année marque la première participation d'ESET Canada à ce programme.
Mélanie Cadelis est une étudiante de troisième année au baccalauréat en en informatique et en gestion à l'Université de Laval, à Québec.
En plus de se démarquer par un cheminement académique exceptionnel, jalonné de résultats académiques remarquables et de plusieurs distinctions pour son engagement dans la communauté étudiante, Mélanie contribue à inspirer les générations futures et à autonomiser les femmes dans le domaine de la cybersécurité en leur montrant que leurs contributions sont essentielles pour concevoir des solutions qui répondront aux divers besoins d'une industrie en constante croissance.
« L'autonomisation des femmes est chère à mon cœur, et c’est pourquoi j’ai co-fondé l’association étudiante Fémin-IT, qui vise à encourager les femmes à intégrer le milieu des technologies et de la cybersécurité. En créant Fémin-IT, nous avions pour principal objectif d’offrir un “safe space” aux étudiantes dans le domaine des technologies de l’information, où s’exprimer, rencontrer des femmes qui leur ressemblent, partager leurs intérêts, se soutenir et s’encourager dans ce milieu à prédominance masculine », explique Cadelis. Elle ajoute : « J’appartiens également au Comité de programme en informatique et gestion et je participe activement à plusieurs événements visant à inciter plus de jeunes à poursuivre une carrière dans l’industrie des TI et de la cybersécurité. »
Mélanie prévoit également poursuivre ses études à l'Université de Virginie, aux États-Unis, dès l’automne prochain. Elle vise par cette expérience à améliorer sa sensibilité culturelle et à acquérir des compétences qui l'aideront sur le marché du travail dans un environnement technologique mondialement intégré.
« Nous avons été inspirés de voir le nombre de candidats canadiens hautement qualifiés qui ont postulé pour la bourse, montrant à la fois leur passion dans le domaine de la technologie et leur désir de faire le bien avec leur ensemble de compétences unique », souligne Celeste Blodgett, vice-présidente des ressources humaines chez ESET. « Après un processus de sélection rigoureux, nous avons jugé que Mélanie incarne les valeurs de la bourse d'études ESET Women in Cybersecurity. Elle est motivée, prend des initiatives pour poursuivre ses objectifs et trouve malgré tout le temps d'aider d'autres femmes et étudiants en technologie. »
Bien qu'ESET Canada participe pour la première fois à ce programme, la bourse d'études ESET Women in Cybersecurity a été lancée en 2016, afin d’aider à soutenir et encourager les femmes qui aspirent à faire carrière en cybersécurité. Les candidatures sont ouvertes aux femmes inscrite ou acceptées dans un programme de premier cycle ou des cycles supérieurs d’université Canadienne et ayant une moyenne cumulative minimale de 3,0 (ou équivalente à celle-ci).
