Every year, sandwiched between National Chocolate Cake Day and National Opposite Day, is an event near and dear to our hearts: Data Privacy Day (DPD). Helmed by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), the January 28 event marks an international effort to create awareness about the importance of privacy and protecting personal information. To celebrate, we've joined our partners at NCSA to promote a safer, more secure and more trusted Internet.
ESET North America CEO Andrew Lee will join leaders and academics in the security and privacy space for a panel discussion this Thursday on the fundamental issues facing businesses today. We're also joining NCSA's DPD Twitter chats (via #ChatSTC), which bring together hundreds of participants to discuss today's most important privacy questions for businesses and consumers.
As we prepare for the big day, here's why DPD is so critical, in five tweets.
1. Because people are less aware of the ramifications of sharing private data than you might think:
2. Because many people could have access to personally identifiable information (PII):
3. Because there's no guarantee your most sensitive data is getting the highest level of protection:
4. Because it can affect your bottom line:
5. Because you're only as strong as your weakest link:

3. Because there's no guarantee your most sensitive data is getting the highest level of protection:

4. Because it can affect your bottom line:
Recent NCSA/ESET study found 33% have abandoned a purchase online b/c of #security#privacy concerns #ChatSTC#PrivacyAware
