In Madrid this week, ESET will join leading minds in IT security from around the world as they come together at the 27th Virus Bulletin Conference to learn, debate and share their knowledge about key issues dominating the industry today.
This is an important event in the world of cybersecurity, as industry experts cover all aspects of the global threat landscape from malware and botnets to the hacking of mobile devices, spam and social networks, and on to solving vulnerabilities in network security.
For 30 years, ESET has been addressing the security challenges of the connected world by pioneering the use of proactive technologies and machine learning. With this wealth of knowledge and experience gained over the past three decades, our experts are extremely well positioned to join the brilliant minds sharing their insights and methods on how best to secure both businesses and individuals in the digital age.
On day one of the conference, Tony Anscombe, ESET's Global Security Evangelist, will take to the stage to talk about ‘a visit to the dark side’ – exploring just how difficult it is to acquire a customised malware strain that could be used to target businesses or consumers to access money or personal data. He will address whether there really are companies that support and improve upon malware on demand, and look into issues around the purchase of data from a breach.
In addition, our team of researchers will be speaking, throughout the week, about the ground-breaking work they’ve been doing, such as disassembling a newly discovered ransomware strain called Sporabyte by byte and uncovering both new techniques and infection vectors for the infamous spyware known as FinSpy.
From spyware to malware, ESET experts will also lead a talk on Industroyer- the first ever malware specifically designed to attack power grids. This unique and extremely dangerous malware framework was involved in the December 2016 blackout in Ukraine and ESET will discuss why Industroyer can be considered the biggest threat to industrial control systems since the infamous Stuxnet worm. The research team will also assess the attackers' motivations, what this threat means to utilities around the world and what needs to be done to secure other critical infrastructure systems.
“The VB Conference is a fantastic and eye-opening event for those in the IT security industry,” said Tony Anscombe, ESET's Global Security Evangelist. “Whether your goal is to protect your organizations’ data and networks, or simply learn about the latest trends, this conference gives us all an opportunity to learn from the best about how we can enjoy technology safely in a digital world.”
