| Closest Competitor has 5 Awards SAN DIEGO – June 1, 2009 – ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, has secured its 11th "Advanced+" rating in retrospective testing from AV-Comparatives, an independent research organization. Only two other products were awarded "Advanced+" in the latest testing, which measured proactive on-demand detection capabilities of 16 antivirus products. AV-Comparatives provided a three-level ranking system of Standard, Advanced and Advanced+ award. To receive an "Advanced+" rating, a product must be rated with not only an excellent proactive detection rate, but also a low false positive rate. To measure for effective detection, the products were "frozen" and measured by the same updates and signatures they had on February 9th with the highest detection settings used. Then new samples found between February 9-16th were applied to the tested products. "ESET is the only vendor tested by AV-Comparatives that has always received the highest ranking (Advanced+) in proactive detection tests," said Andreas Clementi, founder and chief researcher for AV-Comparatives. "ESET always saw the importance and need of a strong heuristic in the fight against malware, and its impressive testing record reflects this." ESET's industry-leading products, including the popular NOD32 Antivirus and ESET Smart Security, deliver a significant improvement over traditional solutions in the marketplace today. Powered by ThreatSense® technology, ESET's products combine speed, accuracy and minimal system impact. The advanced heuristics engine enables proactive detection of malware not covered by even the most frequently updated signature-based products. Unlike traditional approaches, ESET solutions use an emulated environment to decode and analyze executable code in real-time. By allowing malware to execute in a secure virtual world, ESET is able to clearly differentiate between benign files and even the most sophisticated and cleverly-disguised malware.
